Respectance offers visitors another way to capture the memories and moments shared with a loved one who is no longer living. The site is dedicated to memorials and allows users to create a tailored profile and list information and thoughts based on their lost loved one. The site also includes profiles of famous people who have passed away. Users can quickly create a profile, set customized appearance features, and begin adding information and images. Privacy settings are also available for those who wish to keep viewing privileges to only close family and friends.

Respectance was created out of a very difficult experience endured by the creator, Todd Wilkinson. At the time, Wilkinson was doing work in Europe for a number of years. While away, his mother sadly passed away. While this was hard enough, he also had to deal with the fact that the information did not reach him until it was too late to book a flight back home to attend her funeral service. During this time, Wilkinson spoke with various friends and family, sharing memories and heartfelt stories. He realized that there needed to be a better way to capture these conversations and details and share them with others. In 2007, Respectance was launched.

Respectance uses both social networking and basic website creation to provide its users with a specialized way to memorialize their loved ones memory. Users can view memorials, leave comments and share thoughtful experiences they had with the individual being honored. The site’s customization tools allow users to create a profile that is fitting to the individual’s characteristics and personality.

The Respectance homepage features a handful of featured memorials as well as all necessary links to navigate the site. The header features a stylish, yet low key logo in plum accented by the image of a white flower and blue sky. The homepage includes numerous menus, which may be a little overwhelming for a new visitor. The logical layout make it easy to learn the site and begin using all of its features.

New users can begin the registration process by clicking the gold and purple “get started” button at the center of the homepage. The user is directed to the registration form which requests a display name, email address and password. Users can then select a tribute setting, including a background color and banner style. The bottom of the registration form includes the basic details about the dedication, requesting the full name of the person being honored, their date of birth and death, gender, location, and a welcome message.

Respectance allows users to create accounts and build memorials for free. There are no registration costs nor monthly membership fees. At this point, no premium account is offered. Each member is welcome to create a page and begin uploading images, sharing stories and inviting others to post on the message boards. Each memorial site also comes with privacy controls so users can limit access as they see fit. Although an account is not required to vie some memorials, it is necessary to create one and access all site features.

As long as an internet connect is available, Respectance memorials can be accessed and edited.
